Dog Training Articles & Webinars

ArticlesWelcoming a puppy into your family can be an enriching experience. Here at Manners 'n' More Companion Dog Training, we offer you Puppy Kindy. This is a great start to having a loyal and lovable pet. There are many reasons you should sign your dog up for this training class.

Puppies learn from the moment they arrive. The next few weeks include exploration, food, and playing with litter mates. Learning is already present at this stage. Puppies learn the good and bad habits from an early age, that is why beginning Puppy Kindy is a priority.

What is PK?

Puppy Kindy is more than just meeting other puppies, it is being in a different environment with new stimuli to investigate. It is building a strong means of communication between you and your puppy. We will help you create a strong bond while your puppies are in a safe and controlled environment. PK focuses on your puppy’s behaviour.

So what is the ideal age to attend PK? What about vaccinations?

According to dog training seminars, the puppy’s first vaccination is at 6 weeks followed by one during its 12 & 16 weeks. The position statement on puppy socialization from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviour (AVSAB) states that "in general, puppies can start puppy socialization classes as early as 7-8 weeks. Puppies should receive one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to their first class".

Seek advice from your vet, breeder, and other owners to find out what other people do. Research by using articles and webinars. Find more information about the PK centre you, your family, and puppy are going to attend.

Attend our dog training seminars so you know what you need and want from a PK class and teacher. Here are some key things to check out.

Why sterilize the floors?

We can provide dog training articles that stress the importance of sterilized floors.  This is important, as it can ward against possible infections they can pick up.

Why choose accredited trainers?

We can provide dog training articles that shed light on national industry accredited trainers. These are people who have gone through training with a recognized institute. They have been assessed by two of their peers for accreditation. They must be active in the industry and have completed their log hours under the guidance and support of another industry accredited trainer.

Play Dates

Play Dates are not just about socialization. This is where puppies can learn communication skills and bite inhibition in a controlled environment. This is important for your dogs’ communication skills.

Why take the whole family to PK?

Your growing puppy will have to learn to live in a household full of people. All family members must do things the same way when teaching your puppy. A lack of consistency is a recipe for confusion and may result in unsuccessful training of your puppy.

What happens beyond PK?

Your next step should be a puppy transition class where everyone can continue to learn and expand the basics with puppies their own age. This is also a good class to continue if your puppy has not had all its vaccinations yet. After Puppy Kindy your puppy should learn basic obedience, loose lead, and recalls which can be life-saving lessons.
